The Democratic Alliance (DA) will closely monitor the leadership transition in Letsemeng Local Municipality and hold the ANC accountable for ensuring that the change in mayoral leadership delivers meaningful improvements for residents, rather than serving as a political strategy ahead of the upcoming Local Government Elections.

The ANC chose to bring back a former employee of Letsemeng municipality, which did not sit well with many residents.

For many Letsemeng residents who know the current mayor, the appointment left them in awe, as community members feel the removal of the former mayor is just a futile exercise to win over voters rather than addressing the growing challenges in Letsemeng.

With deepening divisions within the ANC, the people of Letsemeng are deeply concerned about the recent replacement of the mayor, with only five months to go before the local government elections.

Mr Andrew Visagie left the institution to seek greener pastures at the provincial level, leaving it with serious challenges that he is now being brought back to fix.

We still believe Mr Visagie has neglected the municipality in pursuit of a better life and has not striven to improve the institution’s state.

The DA will continue to exercise strict oversight over the municipality’s administration and leadership decisions.
