The Democratic Alliance (DA) has learned that Nthoese Development, the developer of Setsing Plaza, donated approximately 266 hawkers’ stalls to the Maluti-a-Phofung (MaP) Municipality.
Following this development, the DA conducted an oversight visit to the area and was shocked to find that there are no public toilets in the vicinity.
The absence of these facilities has led to public urination around the municipal fence, posing significant health and dignity concerns for both vendors and customers.
As a key economic hub for local traders, it is unacceptable that hawkers at Setsing Plaza are forced to operate without access to basic amenities. We urge the municipality to prioritise the provision of adequate facilities and services to support the local trading community.
The DA will continue to monitor the situation closely and work towards a mutually acceptable resolution that benefits all parties.
