The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mantsopa will write to the municipal manager to demand accountability for the shocking condition of Excelsior roads.

During a recent oversight inspection, I observed that many of Excelsior’s roads are in poor condition, overgrown with vegetation, eroded, and in several areas completely impassable.

It is unacceptable that, over the past five years, not a single municipal grader has been deployed to maintain or repair roads in Excelsior. This blatant neglect by the Mantsopa Local Municipality has left residents struggling daily to navigate unsafe, deteriorating streets.

The municipality has a constitutional obligation to provide and maintain basic infrastructure, including roads, yet it continues to fail the people of Excelsior. The lack of maintenance not only affects residents’ mobility but also hampers local businesses, emergency services, and general economic activity.

The DA will be submitting formal questions to the Mantsopa Municipal Manager to demand accountability on:

  1. Why has no road maintenance been done in the last five years?
  2. What immediate plans are in place to restore Excelsior’s road network?

The residents of Excelsior deserve better. The DA will continue to fight for proper service delivery, transparency, and accountability within Mantsopa Municipality.
