The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mantsopa will write to the Municipal Manager to urgently enforce municipal by-laws regulating stray livestock in residential areas.

For far too long, residents have endured the daily nuisance and danger caused by unattended livestock wandering through streets and neighbourhoods. These animals damage property, block roads, and pose serious safety risks, particularly to motorists and children.

The DA questions whether the municipality has an effective pound master or livestock control system in place. It is unacceptable that such negligence has allowed livestock to roam freely, compromising both public safety and the well-being of our communities.

The DA therefore calls on the municipality to take the following immediate actions:

  1. Identify and impound all roaming livestock;
  2. Enforce existing by-laws and implement preventative measures to stop future occurrences; and
  3. Hold accountable those responsible for allowing livestock to wander unchecked.

Residents deserve a safe, clean, and orderly living environment.

We will continue to apply pressure until decisive steps are taken to restore proper livestock control and protect our communities from ongoing neglect.
