The deplorable state of Tokologo Local Municipalities’ Boshof landfill stands as a glaring example of ANC mismanagement. The absence of access control or fencing has turned it into a massive problem. Please see pictures here, here and here.
The DA has tirelessly reached out through numerous calls and emails to the Municipal Manager, urging immediate attention to this issue that poses significant threats to hygiene and safety. Unfortunately, no feedback has been received to date. The repercussions of ANC’s mismanagement extend beyond the landfill. Residents, in desperation, are now forced to dispose of waste improperly, negatively impacting both public hygiene and safety. The absence of a legal license further endangers the community’s well-being, making immediate intervention crucial. Despite multiple appeals from the public, there has been no response from the Municipal Manager.
The landfill, which underwent an R6 million upgrade four years ago, initially emerged as a modern waste disposal site. Regrettably, within a year of completion, its condition began to deteriorate. The municipality lacks suitable vehicles for terrain maintenance, compelling additional expenses to hire private contractors for landfill servicing.
We are approaching the Environmental Management Inspectors (Green Scorpions) to intervene and address the environmental crisis created by ANC’s negligence. We want to assure the community that, had this been under a DA government, such chaos would not have ensued.
We are committed to bringing change across the country and therefore urge all residents to register to vote in the 2024 National and Provincial Government elections.
