The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Dihlabeng Local Municipality is concerned over the persisting malfunctioning of the municipal administration. Regrettably, the municipality’s failure leaves the community in a state of disarray.
The appointment of Municipal Manager, Mohau Ntheli, has not led to the expected improvements. Tragically, morale among the municipality’s staff remains abysmally low, exacerbated by the absence of permanent Directors, leading to the ineffective functioning of most departments. This dire situation directly translates to a decline in the quality of daily services provided to our community.
We have repeatedly highlighted issues within the council, ranging from internal and external communication breakdowns to shortages of monthly statements and non-functional internal copier systems. These challenges, coupled with administrative flaws and poor management, have left several departments struggling to operate efficiently.
It is disconcerting that the new MM appears unaware of the gravity of his role, succumbing to political pressures instead of prioritising residents’ welfare. The DA firmly asserts that accountability cannot remain elusive.
The DA will submit a Rule 38 question to the council, demanding the immediate development and implementation of a comprehensive recovery plan. This plan must address the administrative shortcomings, fill senior vacancies, and reinstate a robust communication system both internally and externally.
