The DA in Letsemeng will write to the acting municipal manager, demanding an explanation for the recently published water contamination notice.
The notice said E. coli was detected in Petrusburg, Jacobsdal, and Koffiefontein, requiring residents to boil water due to contamination.
Such instances result from a lack of routine maintenance at water treatment plants, and poor maintenance of the treatment process leads to these conditions.
The DA will pressure the municipal manager to implement consequences management, as the municipality failed to detect the issue early.
Letsemeng has been without a permanent technical director for five years, and the DA has warned about vacant critical positions that threaten residents’ livelihoods across Letsemeng.
Residents are facing a life-threatening situation, which the DA cannot sit back and watch as residents suffer under the poor management of the ANC.
If the ANC really cared about residents, the systems in place would have detected the problem before it got out of control.
The DA will further escalate the matter through the Member of Legislature and constituency head Dave McKay to request urgent intervention from the relevant department in the Free State.
