The dire state of Trichardt Road in Mangaung is seeing progress from the municipality after immense DA pressure. The municipality has started scraping the road for better access after a video posted by the DA.

The road has become totally impassable. Mangaung has appointed a contractor for the project in Kerkstraat, Grassland Phase 4, which will not be completed within the designated 12 months.

The contractor destroyed a sewage pipe, spilling sewage into the community of Mosikidi, and has recently destroyed a water pipe, spilling water and damaging Trichard Road.

The contractor has also dumped soil from the construction site on a nearby municipal open space, which could cause flooding and collapse nearby houses.

Taxis and private vehicles cannot use the road, as it has become extremely dangerous and a safety hazard.

This is again a direct result of ANC mismanagement and a lack of planning and proper contractor selection to do the project.

The DA demands that:

  1. Trichardt Road be graded and re-gravelled,
  2. A proper stormwater drainage plan be implemented to prevent further flooding and erosion, which causes dangerous potholes, and
  3. The contractor be reprimanded for the failure, and the issues caused be addressed immediately.

The residents of Mangaung Metro deserve safe, passable and properly maintained roads that prioritise the safety and wellbeing of its citizens.

The DA will continue to hold the administration and contractor accountable and fight for the reliable services and opportunities our residents deserve.
