The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the arrest of a suspected member of an alleged licence fraud syndicate operating in Parys. This arrest is an important step towards dismantling criminal networks that exploit government systems for personal gain and undermine public confidence in state institutions.
Licence fraud is not a victimless crime. It compromises road safety and erodes the integrity of South Africa’s licensing system. Those responsible, including any public officials who may have facilitated these crimes, must face the full consequences of the law.
The DA calls on the authorities to ensure that this investigation follows the evidence wherever it leads and that all individuals linked to the syndicate are brought before the courts without delay.
The DA further calls on the Free State MEC for Community Safety, Roads and Transport to conduct an immediate forensic audit of all Driving Licence Testing Centres in the province, strengthen anti-corruption controls, and publicly report on measures being implemented to prevent similar syndicates from operating in the future.
