The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mantsopa has escalated the ongoing sewerage and infrastructure failures in Ward 7, Ladybrand, by submitting a written follow-up to the Mayor and Technical Director, requesting immediate remedial action, clear timelines, and accountability measures

Despite numerous reports and formal escalation, critical issues remain unattended.

At 57 Fifth Street, a persistent sewerage leak has been reported repeatedly. The root cause of this issue was clearly outlined during a meeting held on 25 March 2026 with the Mayor and the Technical Director of Mantsopa Local Municipality. During this engagement, the Mayor instructed that this matter, along with several other urgent concerns raised, be addressed without delay.

Regrettably, no corrective action has been taken to date.

Additional urgent concerns include:

• Corner of Kriek Avenue and Loop Street – ongoing sewerage leak requiring immediate attention.

• 37B Erasmus Street – unresolved sewerage issue.

• Dan Pienaar Street – collapse of the main sewerage line, resulting in raw sewerage flowing through the street. The area has become overgrown and inaccessible, posing a significant risk to residents.

These conditions are completely unacceptable and present serious health, environmental, and safety risks to the community.

We will continue to escalate these matters and apply sustained pressure until meaningful intervention is achieved. The continued failure to address such critical service delivery issues undermines the dignity and well-being of our residents.

We remain committed to ensuring accountability and advocating for efficient, responsive service delivery.

Residents are encouraged to continue reporting service delivery issues through official municipal channels and to retain reference numbers to support follow-ups.
