The Democratic Alliance in Lejweleputswa District Municipality will write to the Municipal Manager, Mr Makhetha, regarding the water conditions in Kgotsong and Bothaville in Nala Municipality.
The DA is deeply concerned about the deteriorating quality of water being supplied to residents. Access to clean and safe drinking water is a basic human right, yet the community receive water that is foul-smelling and questionable for consumption.
This ongoing situation reflects a serious failure by Nala Local Municipality to ensure proper water treatment and maintenance of the water infrastructure. Residents should not have to question whether the water coming from their taps is safe to drink, cook with or use for basic household needs.
Poor water quality poses significant health risks, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. Communities cannot be expected to live under constant uncertainty about something as fundamental as water safety.
The DA calls on Nala Local Municipality to urgently:
- Conduct immediate water quality testing.
- Identify the root cause of this situation.
- Implement urgent corrective measures to restore a safe and clean water supply to residents of Bothaville and Kgotsong.
- Provide clear communication to the community regarding the steps being taken to resolve the problem.
Furthermore, the municipality must prioritise the maintenance and upgrading of ageing water infrastructure to prevent recurring failures that continue to compromise service delivery.
The DA will continue to strive to improve basic service delivery in Kgotsong and Bothaville.
