The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Maluti-A-Phofung has launched a water petition for Ward 10 in Tseki, where parts of Tseki Thajaneng have been without water for the past 10 years. The DA conducted oversight visits and engaged with the community, where residents expressed deep frustration and desperation over the prolonged water crisis affecting their area.

Despite engagements with the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Water and Infrastructure, there has been no meaningful intervention. The DA will not stand idly by while residents continue to suffer without access to clean water.

The DA calls on the municipality to take immediate action to address the water shortage in Tseki Thajaneng. We demand clarity on the plans in place to repair the damaged infrastructure, particularly the water pipes.

In addition, we seek urgent short-term solutions to provide a reliable water supply, as well as long-term strategies to prevent similar crises in the future. The municipality must also prioritise transparent, consistent communication with the affected community on progress and interventions.

The DA will closely monitor the municipality’s response and ensure accountability at every stage. It is unacceptable that residents are forced to rely on unsafe water sources, including open wells shared with animals. Access to clean and safe water is a basic human right, and the continued failure to provide this essential service is a serious violation of that right.

We await a formal response from the Municipal Manager.

We remain committed to ensuring that the residents of Tseki Thejaneng receive the dignified and reliable water supply they deserve.
