The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Metsimaholo calls on the municipality and Parks Department to urgently clean and maintain all greenbelts in Sasolburg, which are contributing directly to rising criminal activity and putting residents at serious risk.
Recent reports from CPF Sasolburg highlight incidents linked to overgrown greenbelts, including break-ins, robberies, assaults, vandalism, and cable theft at substations across multiple locations—from Tienie Louw Street to areas behind local schools and commercial properties. These recorded incidents likely represent only a fraction of actual crimes, as many go unreported.
The current state of these greenbelts not only endangers public safety but also poses significant health and wellbeing risks for the community. Overgrown vegetation provides cover for criminal activity, undermining residents’ sense of security and contributing to a climate of fear.
The DA demands immediate maintenance and cutting of all greenbelts in Sasolburg to reduce crime risks, protect residents, and restore public confidence in municipal service delivery. Sasolburg deserves to be a safe, clean, and welcoming town where families, workers, and visitors can live and move freely without fear.
The DA will continue to monitor progress and hold the municipality accountable until these essential safety measures are implemented.
