The Democratic Alliance (DA) notes the recent electricity disconnection at the vehicle registration office in Sasolburg, which has interrupted services to residents.
The disconnection follows outstanding payments reportedly owed by the Free State Department of Public Works and Infrastructure to Metsimaholo Local Municipality. While municipalities are required to enforce their credit control policies, it is equally important that government departments meet their financial obligations to ensure continuity of public services.
The disruption has created difficulties for residents who need to register newly purchased vehicles and comply with legal requirements. These administrative challenges place unnecessary strain on citizens who rely on efficient and accessible government services.
The DA demands that the relevant authorities provide clarity on the circumstances leading to this situation and take swift steps to restore normal operations. Ensuring accountability and preventing similar occurrences in future must remain a priority.
Residents deserve a government that manages its responsibilities effectively and safeguards uninterrupted service delivery
