The Democratic Alliance (DA) strongly condemns the Tokologo Local Municipality’s failure to maintain electricity infrastructure in Dealesville and Dikgalaope and will write to the municipal manager to urgently address the problem.

Electricity poles are collapsing one after another, while overhead wires swing dangerously in the wind, sparking like live skipping ropes. This reckless neglect has led to erratic power supply, placing residents’ lives at risk and threatening to destroy household appliances and vital equipment.

Every spark is a warning sign. Tokologo’s failure to maintain basic infrastructure is gambling with the safety and dignity of our communities.

This crisis is not an accident; it is the direct result of years of municipal inaction. Communities deserve reliable electricity, not a ticking time bomb above their homes.

The DA demands that the Tokologo Local Municipality:

  1. Replace collapsing poles and hazardous wiring immediately.
  2. Implement a preventative maintenance programme with regular inspections.
  3. Provide clear timelines to residents on when repairs will be completed.

Electricity is not a luxury; it is a fundamental right. The people of Dealesville and Dikgalaope cannot be left in danger because of municipal neglect.

The DA will continue to monitor the situation and hold Tokologo accountable until residents are guaranteed a safe, consistent electricity supply.
