The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Moqhaka has written to the Department of Community, Roads, and Transport to urgently address the non-operational Kroonstad traffic office, which has been closed due to employee strikes.

For almost two weeks, traffic officials have been on strike. As a result, residents report that tests for learner’s and code 8 licences have stopped entirely.

Officials are alleged to have been on a silent strike for three years, still receiving full pay, but only recently made their grievances public. During this period, intern officers handled duties while permanent officers waited for their shifts to end.

After investigating, these allegations were confirmed and immediately reported to the Provincial Government. Although the HOD is reviewing the situation, licence testing remains unavailable.

The DA will continue to follow up, as licence testing is critical for residents’ employment opportunities, and this right is currently being denied.
