The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mangaung will formally write to the municipal manager, Sello More, to address the ongoing fleet failures crippling Thaba Nchu.

The DA will request public disclosure of fleet deployment schedules, the allocation of emergency funding for maintenance and fuel, and the implementation of a community scorecard system to monitor performance.

The DA in Mangaung calls on the Executive Mayor Gregory Nthatisi, and the Municipal Manager to:

  • Publicly disclose the current fleet deployment schedule for Thaba Nchu.
  • Allocate emergency funds for fleet maintenance and fuel.
  • Create a community scorecard to monitor fleet and service delivery.
  • Align the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Service Delivery Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) with actual budget priorities.

The municipality’s persistent failure to maintain a functional fleet in Thaba Nchu continues to undermine basic service delivery and erode public trust.

Despite repeated promises and budget allocations, residents remain caught in a pattern of neglect, with widespread waste, unrepaired water leaks, and delayed emergency responses becoming commonplace.

Currently, only a small portion of the fleet is operational, far below the minimum required to serve the region effectively. This has resulted in significant delays in waste collection, infrastructure repairs, and other essential municipal services.

The Auditor-General’s 2023/24 report confirms that Mangaung Metro spent 111% of its budget but delivered only 45% of its planned services, indicating a serious governance issue.

While the recent R55 million fleet upgrade and vehicle donations from national departments are welcome, they remain meaningless without transparent deployment plans, maintenance protocols, and community oversight.

Thaba Nchu residents deserve more than press releases and ribbon-cutting ceremonies; they deserve functioning services.

Service delivery is not a privilege; it is a constitutional right. Bureaucratic delays and political posturing will not silence the people of Thaba Nchu. We demand accountability, transparency, and urgent action.
