The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Mangaung Metro Municipality will submit Rule 38 questions to the municipality, seeking clarity on why Heidedal’s public swimming pool has been allowed to fall into disrepair, leaving local children without a safe place to swim. The DA will also press the municipality to carry out essential maintenance immediately, working alongside the local ward councillor to ensure that this important community asset is prioritised and restored for safe use during the summer months.

Nearly a year ago, Heidedal’s community took on the task of refurbishing the pool themselves, yet due to the municipality’s ongoing failure to maintain the facility, it has once again deteriorated. The absence of this safe recreational space has forced children to seek alternative locations, with many turning to the hazardous quarry. This quarry has tragically claimed numerous young lives, inflicting profound losses on the community.

The DA calls upon the local ANC-ward councillor to demand the municipality to ensure regular upkeep of this facility. As the ward’s elected representative, the councillor’s role is crucial in driving accountability within the municipality to address this ongoing issue. We aim to provide children in Heidedal with a safe, supervised place to swim, which is vital for their well-being, safety, and recreation. Immediate action from the municipality, backed by dedicated local representation, is essential to prevent further risks and ensure the safety of our young residents.
