On the 2 March 2023 the Heilbron traffic office was burgled. Equipment essential to the operation of the centre was stolen and vandalised.

When asked last year when the office would be operational, the department indicated that the centre would open soon. A year later, a makeshift office was instituted, but delivers minimal services.

The front office at this centre remains closed. Employees go to work every day and are unable to work because office equipment is not repaired.

This is another example of the collapse of governance and resulting service delivery failures in the Free State.

Community members are forced to go to neighbouring towns to get services, incurring additional costs.

The DA will continue to hold the ANC-run government accountable with additional questions to the responsible MEC in the Free State Legislature and demand a practical strategy to address this challenge.
