The DA has escalated the matter of residents being placed on unserviced, newly allocated housing sites to the legislature through CoGTA spokesperson and constituency head David Mc Kay, so that the MEC can urgently intervene and address these violations

Residents have been placed on newly developed housing sites without access to basic services, such as electricity, sanitation, water, or roads. This inhumane act by the ANC-run municipality is another move for political gains without any regard for the safety and dignity of residents.

The allocation of these sites is in contravention of the Spatial Planning and Land Management Act (SPLUMA), which dictates a comprehensive framework for land use planning and requires development to be aligned with land use schemes that ensure service provision.

The DA firmly believes that the allocation of sites should be done in line with the basic principles of human rights and SPLUMA, not to gain political points. We will continue to fight for the rights of every resident in Letsemeng, and not allow the ANC-led municipality to ignore the law or compromise the dignity and safety of our communities. Service delivery is not a favour; it is a right for every resident.
